Ok… so… I'm the first to ditch the latest buzzword… and I'm surely not out there playing drinking games (these days)… but I thought this was pretty funny since its poking fun at the whole thing.

I'm not sure if you've run into this… if you have, then you, like me, will be happy to find the solution…. no, it is not an edit in the Edit > Preferences > File Handling…panel as would be expected.

Photoshop out of the box will truncate filenames to 31 characters for compatibility with the feeble file system in Macintosh OS 9.

Create or open a file, then bring up the Save For Web dialog. Pop open the little flyout menu (circle with arrow in it - Optimize Menu) to the right of the Preset menu and choose Edit Output Settings…. In the Output Settings dialog, choose Saving Files from the second popup, then uncheck the Mac OS 9 checkbox under Filename Compatibility.

How can you go wrong with this combination. I recently read and article about games as education which featured some comments from Atari founder Nolan Bushnell in which he mentioned his plans (already in progress) to build a chain of wired restaurants in which patrons compete and interact. Sounds like the kind of stuff we were dreaming up back in the dot com boom… but with technology and games where they are today… this is more that smoke-and-mirrors.
